steve o: the life & times of a superfan
Known to many as "that crazy-dancing tie-dye guy at every single Jenny Thing show," Steve O. was injured while enjoying a particularly rowdy TJT gig in the Bear's Lair at UC Berkeley circa 1993, breaking his leg on a monitor in the chaos of the crowd. Once off crutches, Steve O. continued to follow TJT very closely for several years and he was even spotted at the most recent Jenny Thing performance, the 1999 release party for Nowhere Near You, after which he - and the band - went underground.
Being a sort of attitudey modern day hippie, he became something of a professional protester after graduation. Fighting for grape farmers, unions, and alternative energy and transportation causes he was arrested, arraigned and set free multiple times. Then, about two years ago, Steve O. (on a Schwinn) went head-to-head with a truck driver (driving a semi). He was badly injured and has been fighting insurance companies and corporations ever since.
I saw him with his partner Amy at the Starry Plough a year or two ago. He was in good spirits and improved health. But I believe he hurt his ankle coming out of the bathroom, and I am not kidding.
